About me
Growing up in the lush wooded Otway Ranges of South West Victoria, it’s no wonder that Carl Karacsay has a lifetime of experience and life-long love of working with timber. While he apprenticed in carpentry and joinery under his Austrian father George, he quickly realised that his real love was finding the beauty in a piece of solid timber and crafting it into functional and artistic form.
Carl’s own house, perched on the edge of the Otways, was the ultimate expression. In 1991, after designing the house and a four year build, Carl created a home full of timber and light with a footprint in the shape of a gumleaf, a central interior glass atrium and interior ceiling beams representing the leaf veins. He still loves living there.
