About me

Growing up in the lush wooded Otway Ranges of South West Victoria, it’s no wonder that Carl Karacsay has a lifetime of experience and life-long love of working with timber. While he apprenticed in carpentry and joinery under his Austrian father George, he quickly realised that his real love was finding the beauty in a piece of solid timber and crafting it into functional and artistic form.
Carl’s own house, perched on the edge of the Otways, was the ultimate expression. In 1991, after designing the house and a four year build, Carl created a home full of timber and light with a footprint in the shape of a gumleaf, a central interior glass atrium and interior ceiling beams representing the leaf veins. He still loves living there.

What I can do for you

With 40 years of passion and experience behind him, Carl Karacsay can help you create statement furniture for your home that will last the test of time. His innate knowledge and love of timber, ensures you will receive an individual piece, unique, made to last – and the only one of its kind in the world.
Having custom furnishings created allows you to incorporate your own design inspirations or match existing special pieces in your home. Carl can help you decide on what size and features will suit you best, and mix and match materials and timbers to your exact liking. His favourite timber is Blackwood from the Otways, especially if it has the striking fiddle back grain.

Skills

Carl Karacsay is a qualified builder and joiner with 40 years experience and a quality reputation to match.
Building on the craftsman’s skills passed to him by his Austrian father, Carl has also explored custom furniture making. He has attended several courses in the long-lost art of crafting Windsor chairs and three legged stools using steam bending and traditional hand tools only – drawer knives and spoke shaves to name a few.
Carl loves making large dining and boardroom tables.
